Flora and Fauna

Pico de Loro boasts an incredibly diverse array of flora and fauna. As you hike through the lush vegetation, thick canopies intermittently give way to stunning city vistas. Along the trail, visitors encounter a mesmerizing variety of trees, from towering Yarumo and Oaks to fragrant cedars and graceful palms, intertwined with vines and adorned with delicate ferns, bromeliads, and wild orchids.

Amidst this natural splendor, lucky hikers may catch glimpses of some of the area's avian residents, including colorful Pavas, vibrant tanagers, and the elusive cock of the rock. The trail is also home to a vibrant ecosystem of insects, adding bursts of color and life to the surroundings.

Things to bring for our tour:

Water and hydration: Carry an ample supply of water to stay hydrated throughout the hike, especially in the warm and humid climate of the region.

  • Appropriate footwear: Comfortable hiking shoes or boots with good traction

  • Sun protection: Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat to shield yourself from the sun's rays

  • Snacks and energy food: Bring extra lightweight and nutritious snacks such as trail mix, energy bars, or fruits to keep your energy levels up during the hike.

  • Weather-appropriate clothing: Dress in layers and wear moisture-wicking clothing suitable for hiking in a tropical climate. Additionally, bring a lightweight rain jacket or poncho in case of unexpected rain showers.

  • Insect repellent

  • Camera or smartphone

Level of difficulty: intermediate to high, uneven, and muddy terrain. You must be in good physical condition to join.

Duration: The tour is approximately 9 hours approximately, with 6 hours of hiking.

Pico de Loro Day Trip Itinerary:

You’ll be hiking at elevations ranging from 1,592 m to 2,821 m meters (5,223 to 9,255 feet) above sea level, Dress appropriately for hiking in nature and rainy conditions.

Hike Distance: 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) each way, for a total of 14 kilometers (8.7 miles) round trip.

Most of our group tours require a minimum of 3 people to run the tour. If we do not hit this minimum, we reserve the right to cancel the tour, in which case we will contact you to offer an alternative tour or send a refund.
